Town Centre Argos store will not open after lockdown

It’s been revealed that the Victoria Lane Argos branch will not re-open after lockdown and instead will re-locate into Sainsbury’s at Shorehead.

In a recently displayed sign in the shop window – it reads “This store is now closed. Argos in Sainsbury’s, Shorehead opening April 2021.

The move comes after a decision was published in November of their plan to open another 350 Argos stores within Sainsbury’s supermarkets.

Argos confirmed to Huddersfield Times that any stores that haven’t opened since March 2020 will remain closed permanently. They have not confirmed any other closures. Argos also told us “While these stores have remained closed, many Argos colleagues have redeployed to help in other Argos stores and Sainsbury’s supermarkets. They will continue to do this during the consultation process and we will do everything possible to find them alternative roles within the business.”

Huddersfield Times are unable to identify whether all the Victoria Lane staff have been re-deployed elsewhere within the business, but wishes all the staff well for their future.
