Jo Fisher tells us about her business journey so far!
Can you introduce your business in 10 words or less?
Clinical & Solution Focused Hypnotherapy for mental health and wellbeing.
How long has your business been running, and what drove you to start it?
I launched Jo Fisher Hypnotherapy in June 2020 when I became a fully qualified clinical and solution focused hypnotherapist. My previous work was China focused and of course work dried up with the start of Covid in China. I used the lockdown as an opportunity to complete my hypnotherapy training (which I started in 2019 out of interest!). I’ve always worked with companies finding solutions. Now I am able to work on a personal level which is much more rewarding.
Where is your business based, and what led you to choose to be based there?
My therapy room is located in The Media Centre in Huddersfield town centre. I ran my other business from here for 3 years. It’s handy for parking, local transport (bus and trains) – so it is accessible and close to the shops.
What are your most popular items/services? Why do you think this is popular with customers?
I treat clients suffering from a range of issues including anxiety and stress, panic attacks, depression and low moods, lack of confidence and self-esteem, phobias (fear of needles, spiders, water etc …..), insomnia and OCD as well as eating problems, weight loss and wanting to quit smoking.
In addition, I help clients with addictions and dependencies including alcohol, drugs and gambling by working to change their addictive behaviours and lessen the withdrawal symptoms. And I have just qualified as a hypnobirthing practitioner so will be running group and individual classes for mums and dads.
Solution focused hypnotherapy is an amazing tool which focuses on finding solutions for the present and future rather than the past. It is a totally positive therapy that helps clients to change their mind-set and enables them to take control and move forward with their life confidently and positively.
Do you have any employees?
Only me at the moment!! But I am part of a wide group of other hypnotherapists around the UK.
What’s your favourite job/task that you do as part of your business, and why?
It’s all good but it is all about the clients, treating them using hypnotherapy and seeing the improvements in their mental health and wellbeing.
What impact has the pandemic/lockdown had on your business? Would you carry on with any of your new ways of working even when things are back to normal?
Having to work online more than ever is one of the biggest impacts. Hypnotherapy works just as well online – but I do like to meet a new client face-to-face. So although using Zoom has its benefits in terms of no travel time or costs, I can’t wait to get back to more face-to-face therapy.
Where do you see yourself/your business in 5 years?
Growing my client base, working with corporates & developing additional expertise in certain areas.
What piece of advice would you give to someone thinking of starting their own business?
Do it! Putting together a business plan is a good starting point so that you know what you need to turnover to cover your costs.
You never know where it will lead to ……
Anything else you’d like to add?
The power of visualisation – try it, it works!!
