Spotlight on: Deeley Mobility Services Ltd

Our Spotlight is shining on Robert from Deeley Mobility Services today, finding out what they can do to keep people moving!

Can you introduce your business in 10 words or less?
We sell, install, service and repair stairlifts and mobility equipment (new and reconditioned).

How long has your business been running and what drove you to start it?
The business was started in 2020 following Robert Deeley being made redundant from his position as head service engineer during the height of the pandemic. With nearly 25 years’ experience as a mobility engineer, Robert took the opportunity to realise a long time ambition to set up his own company to offer a friendly, local service in the area.

Where is your business based?
With our office based in Shepley and our workshop in Penistone, we are aiming to offer a localised and professional service centred around HD8/HD9 and Penistone, but also working much more widely across Huddersfield and the surrounding areas.

What are your most popular items/services and why do think this is popular with customers?

Whilst our repair service has proved very popular, our most popular products are our range of stairlifts and mobility scooters (new and reconditioned).

Do you have any employees?
No, Robert Deeley is the Director and engineer though we do have experienced engineers we can call on when things get particularly busy or in an emergency.

What’s your favourite job/task that you do as part of your business and why?
Ensuring that we provide the most suitable type of equipment to help someone to improve their quality of life – such as the right stairlift that enables someone to remain living in their own home safely and independently, or a mobility scooter that enables them to get out and about, whether it is to work, for days out or to socialise with family and friends.

What impact has the pandemic/lockdown had on your business and why?
Starting a new business mid-pandemic has been a challenge, but it has also presented the opportunity to start slowly, plan and prepare and ensure that we had everything ready to go, before trying to launch ourselves.

Where do you see your business in 5 years’ time?
We intend to remain a local business offering first-class customer service and quality products, both new and reconditioned. We hope that in 5 years’ time we will have grown our customer base and become a recognised and trusted service in the area.
