For our next ‘Small Business Spotlight’, we’re taking a look into The Calder Clinic which opened its doors in May 2021.
Can you introduce your business in 10 words or less?
A private clinic offering high quality aesthetic and rejuvenating treatments.
How long has the business been running, and what drove you to start it?
In 2019, with 25 years of NHS and Clinical dentistry experience, I became interested in branching out into the growing sector of ‘Aesthetics’. I invested in training and premises, researched products, and set up The Calder Clinic in 2020, and opened the doors in May 2021.The discreet clinic is located in a purpose built ‘studio’ positioned within the boundary of my home in Mirfield, so I can offer unrivalled flexibility in terms of appointments availability….Sunday evening? No problem!! I’m 5 minutes from the M62 J25 and there is ample parking.
What are your most popular services? Why?
Anti-wrinkle treatments continue to be extremely popular, as well as injectable Hyaluronic Acid based rejuvenating treatments and subtle ‘tweakments ‘. I insist upon high quality, pure, UK approved products, expertly administered. The results speak for themselves.
What’s your favourite task that you do as part of your business and why?
I absolutely love it all! However, I must say, the initial consultation is special to me. Meeting new people, finding out how I can help them achieve their desired results, and spending time with them explaining all the treatments, dispelling the many myths surrounding this industry. They appreciate the ethical, non- pushy approach. The best bit is without doubt is seeing the difference an excellent treatment result makes to the clients’ confidence and happiness.
What impact has the pandemic had on your business?
The pandemic certainly gave me thinking space to research and refine my selection of products and techniques. It inevitably delayed the opening of the clinic, but the business is growing so successfully I only have time to look forward, not back!
Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
The clinic will have a broader reputation welcoming new clients and returning satisfied clients. By then I may have expanded the premises, or set up another clinic or two. I may develop an interest in training others in aesthetics, and I may be employing staff as I get busier.
Advice to someone thinking of starting their own business?
My advice would simply be to keep a clear view of your business mission. Obviously, be aware of your competition, but don’t compromise your principles to match other people’s prices.
Anything else to add?
It’s worth joining business network groups. The tips and moral support are really helpful. Enjoy the adventure….!!
