Small Business Spotlight on… DTF Digital

January 2021 marks the 15th birthday of Shelley-based business DTF Digital. Director Stacey Pratt kindly shared what they’ve been up to recently.

DTF Digital was originally founded in 2006 when David, company Director, was studying at the University of Huddersfield and created a website as a favour to a friend’s relative. It quickly dawned on him that he could go into business creating bespoke sites, and as a bonus he enjoyed it too! Thus ‘Design That Fits’ was born, and since then has grown and grown.

Rebranded as DTF Digital in late 2019, the company has gone from the humble beginnings of website development to a wide range of digital marketing services, such as web applications, social media marketing and advertising. Nevertheless, one particular service has been increasing in popularity;

“We find that a sizeable proportion of our customers are interested in setting up e-commerce, which has become more prevalent over the past year due to the covid-19 pandemic”, Stacey told us, due to businesses who had previously only operated face to face, having to go online.

The pandemic has impacted the business in other ways. At the beginning, as is standard when businesses find themselves under financial pressure, marketing expenditure was often the first thing to go. “Things changed very quickly,” she continued, “businesses soon realised that in order to survive the prolonged crisis, they needed to adapt and optimise in order to improve their conversion rates”. This has resulted in exponential growth in DTF Digital’s e-commerce and associated marketing solutions.

So what does the future hold for DTF Digital? Stacey hopes they will move to a larger office space and take on more staff, and grow alongside developing technologies and business strategies. In the short term, they are on the hunt for a talented Business Development Manager to expand their client base.

If you’re thinking about starting your own business, Stacey has some words of wisdom; “a small business often seems like a dream scenario, to work for yourself on your own time and own terms. But you must know when to delegate tasks so you don’t get overburdened. It’s all about striking a good work-life balance.” With their award of Best Online Marketing Agency at the SME News awards 2020, it’s fair to say that it’s advice worth listening to.

With 15 years under their belt and a slew of local customers such as Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice, Huddersfield Bearings and KG Bathrooms, it’s clear that DTF have made their mark on the town and are here to stay!
