For the past 16 years, Newsome Ward Community Forum has provided a children’s Christmas Party, but with the Coronavirus Pandemic bringing parties to a temporary stop, they had to improvise to bring some Christmas Magic to their streets.
The Community Forum arranged for Santa to visit early this year and there was no need for group gatherings as he performed a driving tour of the streets of Newsome; equipped with some special helpers of course!
The event received very positive feedback with parents taking to Facebook to express their thanks because this has been their only way to allow their children to see Santa this year.
Cllr Julie Stuart Turner said ‘I was delighted to see so many people join in, the time flew by, and we didn’t notice the rain, just all the happy faces en-route’.
There were a lot of people to thank for this event including DTBS-CNC for making Santa’s sleigh, ONE17 Charitable Trust for help with costs, Rowe Roofing and Walker Timber and Fencing provided the truck, driver and associated costs, the local PCSO’s, Rev. Julie Anderson who opened up St John’s Church at lunchtime so the volunteers and all those involved could have a break, use the toilet, have a sandwich and a hot drink.
We love to see this sort of community spirit! #SpreadTheChristmasCheer
