The creative video won the school an Ed-tech prize valued at £3,000.
It’s an excellent start to the new term for Marsden Junior School in Huddersfield, after winning an interactive display through ‘Classroom Stories’ – a national competition run by global education technology company, Promethean.
Installed in the year four classroom ready for the brand-new term, the ActivPanel display has given staff and students an exciting springboard for 2022.
Erin Sharp, a teacher at Marsden Junior School, reflected on the win: “We already had two ActivPanels which are very well-used. We wanted to give more of our teachers a chance to access this tech, so we decided to take a chance and enter.”
The focus of this year’s competition was “celebrating positivity in education”. Schools across the UK were invited to make a two-minute video, illustrating a unique aspect of their classroom that made them proud.
Staff at Marsden Junior School quickly got to work, writing, filming, and editing their entry video. The finished product showcased the school’s commitment to keeping students engaged over lockdown, with a fun song and dance number performed by teachers.
Looking out for entrants that showed passion, innovation, and imagination were guest judges Alex Bramley, National Teaching Gold Award-winner, and Andrew Murden from Naace (the National Association for Education Technology).
Marsden Junior School’s entry video blew the judges away with its spirited, fun performances, and saw the school claim the edtech prize, worth £3,000.
“They’re an amazing educational tool,” continued Erin, “not a glorified projector. With built in apps and tools, it’s a brilliant piece of technology to work with.”
Representing Promethean on the judging panel, Jim Wallis, Head of UKI Market, commented on this winning entry: “We would like to congratulate Marsden Junior School on their fantastic entry into the Classroom Stories competition. Promethean is always excited to celebrate positivity in education, and this is a wonderful example of how creativity and ambition in the classroom should be rewarded. We can’t wait to see how the school engages with their ActivPanel over the current academic year and beyond.”
With the ActivPanel display now installed, students at Marsden Junior School will benefit from a wide range of digital learning opportunities. As well as an onscreen writing experience that is as natural as putting pen to paper, the ActivPanel comes pre-loaded with powerful applications such as an Instant Whiteboard, Spinner, and Timer.
Teachers can also invite students to share content from their own devices to the ActivPanel, helping to create a collaborative environment.
