Lawrence Batley Theatre announces Spring season

The Huddersfield theatre will open its spring season with a sell-out transfer from Manchester’s Hope Mills, A Midsummer Nights Dream. This critically acclaimed production is performed by a female-only cast. Set on a wild hen night in Manchester, this show is Shakespeare as you have never seen it before, think Love Island meets The Real Housewives of Cheshire. A Midsummer Nights Dream will run from Wed 19 to Fri 21 January.

Jesus, Jane, Mother & Me, a new play by acclaimed, award-winning writer Philip Stokes, this new show tells the story of a complex relationship between a son and mother and their mutual obsession with a certain Wakefield born diva. This show will have you laughing and crying in equal measures. Running for three nights from Tue 1 February.

how to live a jellicle life: life lessons from the 2019 hit movie musical cats

A host of touring productions will visit the theatre including: Levantes Dance Theatre’s THE BAND (Tue 8 February), James Gaddas in a one-man version of Dracula (Thu 17 – Fri 18 February), Balletboyz’s latest show Deluxe (Mon 28 March) and A Tribute to the Rat Pack by Northern Swing Orchestra (Sat 5 February).

See some cutting-edge theatre this season with the prodigious Black Is The Color Of My Voice (Wed 16 March) inspired by the life of the successful jazz singer and civil rights activist Nina Simone. Forgiveness (Sat 26 February) the new show by celebrated theatre maker Jonny Donahoe and the ridiculously hilarious production how to live a jellicle life: life lessons from the 2019 hit movie musical cats (Fri 18 February).

Fabulous family shows are here to stay. Some of the absolute highlights this season include Dragons and Mythical Beasts (Fri 11 – Sun 13 February), which features phenomenally huge puppets that are sure to leave you and your little ones awestruck, Zog and the Flying Doctors (Sat 2 – Sun 3 April) based on the story by trusted children’s author Julia Donaldson and at February half term treat yourself to a spellbinding show filled with crazy circus thrills at the High Jinx Magic, Illusion & Circus Show (Sat 26 February).

Those looking for a good laugh can enjoy a wealth of comedy performances kicking off with Jason Byrne’s Audience Precipitation (Thu 27 January), Perrier Award-nominated Reginald D. Hunter’s new show Bombe Shuffleur (Wed 9 March), and a tribute to comedy geniuses Morecombe and Wise in Ian Ashpitel & Jonty Stephens as Eric & Ern (Wed 9 – Thu 10 February).
