At Huddersfield Times, we are proud to be supported by a wide-range of talented, enthusiastic individuals. We’re always on the look-out for new people to join our existing team of amazing volunteers.

Volunteer Events Assistant
We want to make it really simple for people to find out about what’s happening in Huddersfield and for people to promote their events via us.
To achieve this we are recruiting an Events Assistant (volunteer).
This role involves:
– maintaining and updating a live events calendar on the Huddersfield Times website
– monitoring the Events inbox for events that need adding
– a weekly search of a list of sites and social media profiles to check for new event listings to add to our calendar.
This may expand into posting event information on social media to promote particular events, or a ‘Here’s what’s on this weekend’ sort of roundup.
We envisage this role requiring 3-5 hours a week, to be completed at your convenience and full training is provided.
This role would suit someone who wants to get involved in a local community news outlet but doesn’t want to be involved with the writing side of things, as well as someone with an interest in local events.
The role of a Volunteer Reporter is one of our most-varied and sought-after roles. It involves (but isn’t limited to) processing story leads, obtaining and fact-checking information, conducting interviews, writing engaging articles and obtaining related imagery, We also encourage our reporters to generate and write upon their own story leads if they wish to do so. Currently, most of the work can be done from a virtual location, however, from time-to-time, reporters may also be presented with the opportunity to go out on location to complete their articles when required.
You’ll see that our site is bursting with content provided to us from local people. We love being able to give talented individuals a chance to showcase their knowledge and experience through these ‘Feature’ articles. We’re always looking to expand on our current offering with even more topical, engaging content.
We’re not all perfect 100% of the time – which is why our Volunteer Proof-readers are responsible for making sure our key content is the best it can be! It involves checking a whole host of things from grammar, structure, context, spelling, as well as making sure that everything we post is free from anything that could get us into trouble!
We are an online-only community news outlet and at this time all of our positions are voluntary. With all of our positions we do not expect a fixed commitment of time from our volunteers, however, we do ask that they can commit enough time on a weekly basis to enable us to continue delivering relevant, local news.
We are proud to offer these voluntary opportunities to individuals to help enhance their experience within the industry. We encourage all our volunteers to use the experience gained from volunteering with us in their future endeavours and are happy to endorse individuals who contribute.
