Huddersfield Town’s 2021 annual awards ceremony goes virtual

For most Huddersfield Town supporters, the annual awards event is a night of excitement and recognition with a chance to reflect on the season’s highs and lows. Consequently, there was a lot of disappointment last year when the awards event had to be cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

This year, the event returns, with the prestigious event being held virtually due to the ongoing pandemic, with supporters able to watch a free live stream of the event online.

Just like previous years, awards will be won throughout the event, with virtual attendees able to listen to the nominations, see the winners as well as hearing from some of the staff and directors at the club. There will also be some guest appearances from some former Huddersfield Town players.

Whilst the virtual event may be different from previous years, it does allow all supporters to watch the event for free and will also attract a higher viewing audience.

Huddersfield Times reached out to town supporters for their views. Whilst most are obviously disappointed that they cannot actually attend the event, a lot of them are hopeful the virtual event will attract and engage more supporters. Here’s what some of them said to us:-

@Trevor2cole said “I think it’s a good idea and hopefully going forward they will do the same for the majority of fans who can’t afford to normally go. To watch the presentations online can only help engage fans.”

@charliebangor said “You gotta do what you gotta do. Fair play to the club for taking the initiative. I suppose a plus point is that the audience can be widely expanded.”

@p_hollas said “The @southn_terriers normally have a table [at the event] and sponsor ‘Goal of The Season’. It’s usually a brill night and a chance to see a different side to the players. Hope the virtual event will allow many more to take part.”

The date for the virtual awards event is yet to be released, however the club are looking for sponsors for the event. Enquiries should be made to jon.macdonald@htafc.com.
