Huddersfield Town Women Manager Departs

Jordan Wimpenny has stepped down from his role as first-team manager at Huddersfield Town Women just a week before the new season is set to begin.

In a statement released by the departing manager, Wimpenny described the decision as the toughest he’s had to make, although pointed towards a change in personal circumstances for the main reason.

Wimpenny had remained unbeaten at home and saw his side finish top of the league when the season was scrapped earlier this year. Huddersfield also equalled their record in the Women’s FA Cup where they left the competition in the fifth round.

Jordan released the following statement:

“This has been by far one of the toughest decisions I’ve had to make, my announcement to leave the club is one that has been thought about in great detail but sadly one I must take at this current moment.

Jordan Wimpenny has seen the team through a lot of upheaval during the pandemic.

“Personal circumstances have meant I must leave this great team of staff and players but knowing the club is in a great position is something that everyone should be looking forward to. I can’t thank everyone enough for their support.

“The staff and players have been nothing but exceptional since I’ve been working with them but as I now leave the club I wish nothing but great success for all those involved.

“The supporters of the club will continue to see their side perform each week and strive to be the best they can. Once again I thank you and wish you all the very best for the future.”

The move is likely to send shockwaves throughout the league with Huddersfield being seen as possible favourites for the league title. Highly experienced Steve Appleton will step up into the interim managerial role for the upcoming league opener next week, where they will face Nottingham Forest LFC.

Huddersfield Times wish Jordan all the best for the future, we’re sure Steve Appleton will do a great job of supporting the team with their continued success!
