Huddersfield hosts Padel Festival as new courts officially open

The padel courts are covered and floodlit, making it a sport for all weathers

Huddersfield Lawn Tennis & Squash Club will be hosting a Padel Festival from 12 – 16 July to mark the opening of their newly installed padel courts. Anyone is welcome (including children) to try out the new sport and take part in a series of lessons and introductory sessions run by padel professionals.

Padel is reported to be the world’s fastest-growing sport. The game was originally started in Mexico and quickly swept through South America and then into Europe. Spain is reckoned to have over 20,000 padel courts, and an estimated six million players – it is now the country’s second-biggest participation sport after football. Forecasters predict padel will become an Olympic sport by 2028 or 2032.

Padel is a racket sport that combines elements of tennis and squash. It is a fun, sociable and very accessible game as players of all ages and abilities will get the basics of the game within the first half an hour of playing.

Huddersfield LTSC worked with Game4Padel to install two covered padel courts, with floodlights earlier this year.
