It’s usually a key event in all of our diaries, but sadly the organisers of the Huddersfield Food and Drink Festival have been left with no other option but to postpone the festival until 2022 due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.
The event was also unable to go ahead last year, but organisers – Huddersfield Live worked hard to provide an online virtual festival featuring a wide array of local businesses. Back in 2019, the4-day event, which is usually held in St George’s Square in Huddersfield attracted a footfall of over 130,000 visitors which was its largest to date.
Taking to social media this lunchtime, Huddersfield Live posted:
“Sadly the announcement you were probably expecting has to be made & it is with a very heavy heart we have to announce that our Huddersfield Food and Drink Festival has now had to be postponed until 2022.”
“The uncertainty of the current situation with the pandemic has left us with no other option. Over the last 12 months everyone has been part of this Covid journey & we will not jeopardise all the continued work, dedication & heartfelt determination everyone has endured to putting an end to this pandemic & keeping each other safe. The safety & well-being of everyone has to come first, YOU are too important to us as we look to protect our futures together.”
“We would like to thank you all for your continued support.”
Speaking about the event, Sam Watt from Huddersfield Live said “I personally love every minute of working on this event with such an amazing team, to bring those smiles to peoples faces, those memory making moments, working with such professional teams of people who all work so hard to put on an event like this, it makes me proud to know and learn from them all.”
“The most important thing is that we safeguard each and every one of them and YOU, as best we can, by making decisions like this, so a moment of sadness in having to do so means we can build our safe future and continue doing what we love.”
“Thank you all for everything and for our team in being so very strong and looking to the future as we move forward to happy times together.”
Huddersfield Live also stated that they are looking at ways in which they can still bring smiles to people’s faces, and will provide details as soon as they are available.
