Following up from the release of You Can’t Fall In Love For The Sake of It (or YCFILFTSOI if you’re in a hurry), Huddersfield’s pop-rock ‘man-band’ Boxteles deliver a catchy, lively tale of the highs and lows of dating in the modern world.
D’You Mind (scroll down for video) begins with some whimsical chords on a lone guitar, followed by words that describe how dating should happen; ‘I like you, you like me, too, let’s get together’. But it’s never that simple really, is it?
Boxteles, who are managed by Huddersfield label Caos Music Ltd, tell it how it is. The grim reality is that we often end up hiding some of our quirks and curiosities when we meet someone new, for fear they will find them weird and off-putting. When searching for potential dating material comes down to a choice of swipe left or right, many paint a picture of themselves in the hope their ‘advert’ will be appealing, but end up writing a work of fiction in the process.
“”D’You Mind?” is a song that tries to encapsulate the excitement, anxiety and adventure that is the world of modern dating,” explains the band’s vocalist Tom Bedford. “It’s about trying to be yourself and be true to yourself as well as trying to impress and maybe hide aspects of your personality that you feel may deter others from wanting to stick around, all wrapped into a rocky upbeat pop song.”
After whetting your appetite with D’You Mind, the ‘Teles have kindly served a second course in the form of Bigger Than Me. This one is sure to get your toes tapping, with an energetic intro and overall upbeat vibe. In fact, we highly recommend heading to your streaming service of choice, searching for Boxteles and hitting the ▶️ button whilst enjoying the sun.
Don’t forget, Boxteles have a gig booked in at The Parish on August 14th! You can get your tickets here.
