Float delivers an amazing first year, as the online grocery start-up celebrates its first anniversary

Float, the West Yorkshire-based grocery delivery startup celebrated its first year of trading this month.

Float was created by two local entrepreneurs, Warren Slingsby and Jim Woodhead, of Milnsbridge – “two lazy blokes who hate going to the supermarket”.

The service is designed and built for lactose-free milk and long-life milk shoppers, but offers a lot more besides. Float customers can buy great tasting, long-lasting milk and other groceries as either one-off or a regular subscription.

Having launched nationally in October 2020, Float has seen its sales grow 50% month-on-month and is predicting similar growth in the coming year. Float subscriptions are growing at a similar rate.

“Float’s growth has been phenomenal,” says Warren Slingsby, co-founder at Float. “Lactose-free milk drinkers especially struggle with limited supermarket availability and lockdown made their situation worse. Our customers love knowing that they’ll get the groceries they need when they need them.”

Over their first year, Float has;

  • Delivered to customers across the UK
  • Grown monthly revenue and subscriber numbers by 50%
  • Delivered the milk yield of a herd of 150 Holstein Fresian cows

“It’s been a brilliant year” added Jim Woodhead, Float’s other co-founder. “It’s not just Float’s growth, but also the customer feedback and responses we’ve received. We’re excited to roll out the next step in the Float journey.”
