Doors roll open again at the popular Waggon & Horses as it shows off its new look

The Waggon & Horses in Meltham has reopened and is welcoming customers back following a refurbishment project.

The traditional coaching inn on Huddersfield Road has been a popular watering hole for Meltham villagers and visitors for over 200 years. The friendly neighbourhood pub has been given a fresh new look with additional comfortable seating so customers can sit back, relax and enjoy their drinks with friends, family and colleagues, inside and outside.

The award-winning Craft Union Pub Company, which was named the Best Community Operator at the 2022 Publican Awards, has invested over £100,000 so the Waggon & Horses can happily roll on accommodating the Meltham community and tourists for years to come.

While the décor may have changed, there are familiar faces at the bar with Pam and Michael Cox.

They have been welcoming customers to the village centre pub for over 20 years so know pretty much everyone and everything about Meltham!

They have hosted many charity fundraisers plus indoor and outdoor events for locals and tourists to enjoy and there are plenty more planned for 2022. An upcoming highlight is The Best of British weekend on 2nd July, in association with Meltham Memories, to celebrate the Queen’s Jubilee year.

Delighted to be open again and chatting with regulars, Pam said: “We just love this pub and all that goes on here. We have a busy calendar of events planned and will continue to be at the heart of this lovely community. We think it’s all the better with the work that has been done to make it brighter and more comfortable.

We are family-friendly, dog-friendly, and simply a friendly place to stop off at. You can live in Meltham or be visiting, whichever, come and see what’s been done, we love it, and you’ll love it too!”

The beauty of the traditional Yorkshire stone pub is there are separate areas inside so people can have a quiet drink and a chat or enjoy improved viewing in the sports area at the back and catch all the live TV sports action. There’s also a new dartboard for some in-house sporting action and live music and entertainment events. Enjoy a range of great drinks including real ales and artisan spirits from local brewers and distillers, plus all the leading national and international brands, without an eye-watering price tag.

Keep up to date with all the events and offers on the pub’s website:
