Discover a ‘spooktacular’ experience on the Piazza this half-term

There’s plenty on offer to lift your spirits this half term in Huddersfield’s Piazza as part of the Halloween Spooktacular.

Kirklees Council has carved out a week of free creepy crafts and eerie entertainment for all the family from Saturday 23rd October.

The week will end with a fa-boo-lous (sorry!) spooky costume parade for all the family at 3pm on Saturday 30th October.

There’s no need to book, and places on the activities will be offered on a first come first served basis.

The Children’s Art School will be running craft sessions on Saturday 23rd, Tuesday 26th, Thursday 28th and Saturday 30th from 11am to 3pm.

Callaloo Carnival events will help ‘wannabe monsters’ to create Halloween costumes and masks at sessions on Monday 25th, Wednesday 27th, and Friday 29th.  Children aged 5 – 7 can attend the morning sessions from 10.30am – 12pm and older children (8-13) can attend from 1.30pm until 3.30pm.

Award winning storyteller Ursula Holden Gill is also set to have us all under her spell when she reads Jack and the Witch on Friday 29th at both 1pm and 2.45pm.

On Saturday the 30th from 11am, there will be spooky street entertainers and a giant pumpkin carving demonstration as well as lots of other fun activities to keep your little fiends entertained.

Families will then be able to join in with a fancy-dress parade from 3pm and show off their scary costumes.

Councillor Will Simpson, Cabinet Member responsible for Culture and Greener Kirklees said:

“We’re holding this free event to give people an opportunity to come safely together and enjoy the start of the winter festive season. We’ve not been able to do many events recently due to the pandemic, and we know that people have missed out on a lot of opportunities for family fun. Our town centres are open, and we want to encourage everyone to enjoy what’s on offer. So why not come and see us this half term, take in some activities, visit a few shops, take advantage of the great hospitality Huddersfield has to offer and have a fang-tastic time.”

There are lots of other Halloween events happening across Kirklees. Full Details of all events can be found at www.kirkleestogether.co.uk.
