Kirklees Council is encouraging residents to enjoy Christmas in the area’s town and village centres, instead of resorting to online shopping.
The campaign, entitled “Bye bye Clickmas, hello Christmas”, will highlight Kirklees’ vibrant selection of shopping, dining, and leisure to be experienced, not only over Christmas, but all year round.
Kirklees Council will release a series of videos in the run-up to Christmas, in an attempt to stir up some festive spirit and encouraging everyone to shop locally.
This message will be welcomed by Kirklees business owners. Huddersfield took the number-one spot for economic recovery coming out of the series of lockdowns over the last year, and they will be looking to continue their post-lockdown success this Christmas.
With very few of the restrictions imposed last year remaining in place this time around, this year’s festivities will hopefully see a return to some kind of normality for many of us. Huddersfield’s much-loved music venues will be hosting events, such as Northern Quarter’s Christmas Market on the 3rd and 4th of December, tipples in the Huddersfield Winter Festival tipi in St. George’s Square running up until Christmas eve, and an Artisan Market in the old Poundworld unit on the Piazza. See our events calendar for more festive fun!
Councillor Eric Firth, Cabinet Member for Town Centres said, “There were lots of things missing from the Christmas festivities last year that perhaps took the shine off the usual fun people have at this time of year. This year, all of those things are back.
“As our Christmas messaging says, it is difficult to get that magic feeling whilst online shopping so, for those that can, we want to encourage residents and visitors to visit our shops, restaurants, bars, parks and everything else we have to offer in Kirklees.
Hopefully Kirklees residents will continue to support our local businesses and fuel our regional economy this Christmas.
